Cell and Gene Facts

Each cell in a person’s body contains that person’s unique DNA sequence or code in their DNA.

A person’s DNA of some 3 billion C, A, G and T’s is ordered into about 30,000 genes containing the basic information from which the entire person is ‘built’.

We inherit our parents’ genetic codes and some of their genetic abnormalities are passed on to us and reside in our DNA. To the extent that a person’s genes determine their physical characteristics, they also determine whether a person will have one or more genetic abnormalities.
